Scholars Programme

Our Scholars Programme provides an exciting opportunity to stretch and challenge our most able students, helping them to become the best they can be.

Students are identified through a holistic selection process. While Key Stage 2 outcomes are considered, we also draw on internal assessment data and evidence of potential to recognise talent across a range of subject areas.

The Year 7 Scholars cohort begins as a smaller group, with further students invited to join throughout their time at St Peter’s as they demonstrate excellence, commitment and potential.

Developing Future Scholars

As part of our Scholars Programme, students are encouraged to develop the skills and attributes they need to succeed both at school and beyond. These include:

  • Oracy and confident communication
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Independence
  • Determination and resilience
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving

Each year, Scholars take part in a Big Think Day, dedicating a day or part of a day to exploring a specialist subject in greater depth, broadening their knowledge and developing new skills.

Throughout the programme, students also benefit from a range of enriching opportunities to extend their learning and explore their future potential. These include:

  • Visiting universities and experiencing higher education first-hand.
  • Meeting representatives from local businesses and universities, as well as former students.
  • Reflecting on their academic progress and setting ambitious targets with staff.
  • Working with the Careers Department to explore future education and career pathways.
  • Celebrating their achievements at our annual Scholars Celebration Event.
