16-19 Bursary Fund

What is Student Financial Support?

Student Financial Support is a government scheme to support young people facing financial hardship to continue in full-time higher education. To qualify for student financial support, you must be aged between 16–19 years on 31 August and meet the residency conditions. There are lots of ways the fund can support you at St Peter’s. Click here to see the full Student Financial Support policy.

The Bursary is designed to support students with the essential costs of attending St Peter's, which may include:

  • Travel to and from the Academy
  • Essential learning resources and equipment
  • Textbooks, stationery, and specialist materials
  • Educational trips and visits
  • Music lesson tuition fees (where linked to study)
  • Other approved costs necessary for participation in study programmes

There are two types of Bursary funding – Vulnerable Bursary and Discretionary Bursary.

Students may qualify if they are:

  • In care or a care leaver
  • Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name
  • Receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit in their own name

  • Students from low‑income households where household income is £25,000 or less per annum.
  • Students with exceptional circumstances affecting their ability to meet educational costs
