Gardening Club
Earlier this year, with the help of two of our Teaching Assistants at Primary, we started an after-school Gardening Club. By the end of September we are hoping for a good harvest of potatoes, corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, onions and carrots.
Good progress has already been made towards our vision for a growing learning environment and the project sits well alongside the re-wilding work by Mr Motte (TA and Forest School Leader) who has created a dipping pond and been planting new trees, bushes and an area for wildflowers. We have already seen an increase in birds and insects visiting our school fields, which is supporting the Littledown Greenway project led by Bournemouth Parks Foundation.
All this is exciting for the children to see and be part of and is a source of many practical activities and discussions, including the recent talk on bees by Janet, our wonderful beekeeping librarian!
Initially, the project received help from the PTA to buy some compost, but to avoid asking for further funding, if anyone is able to assist with any of the following items, it would be really appreciated and put to very good use.
- Wood chips to put around our raised beds to keep the slugs, snails and weeds away from the planting area.
- Logs that we could use to sit on during our Forest School lessons, gardening activities and also as stepping stones and an obstacle course.
- Garden tools that you no longer need, like spades, rakes, hand trowels and rakes, watering cans, reel with hose.
- Big pots/tubs for planting.
If you can offer help with any of the items above, please could you drop them at our Primary site (St Peter's School, Holdenhurst Avenue, Bournemouth BH7 6RG) during term time or email siteteam@st-peters.bournemouth.sch.uk
