Cooking Smart, Wasting Less

Our Year 10 Food Preparation students have been developing impressive life skills in the kitchen. After learning how to expertly portion a whole chicken, they transformed it into multiple meals — jerk chicken from the limbs, a rich homemade stock from the carcass, and chicken breasts saved and frozen for a curry the following week.
Students recognised that buying a whole chicken and using every part not only reduces waste but also makes cooking far more economical. They even carefully picked over the remaining meat to ensure nothing was wasted. Special mentions go to Anya, Sienna and Emily, who came up with ingenious solutions for safely transporting their stock home!We are incredibly proud to be supporting such savvy, resourceful students — young people who are learning how to feed themselves intelligently for life. Well done, Year 10 Food Preparation students — true life skills in action.
