Butter believe it

Our Year 10 Food Technology students are off to Bournemouth & Poole college on Friday and I think they have been buttering me up, so that they can go!

They made excellent butter last week. They showed a true understanding of flavours by seasoning the butter well. We tasted the butter and talked about sensory language.

If you wish to make butter with your children, fill a jam jar with double cream (half full). Make sure the lid is on properly and shake the jar vigorously until you are left with buttermilk and fat solids (yellow looking butter). Squeeze out the remainder of the liquid through muslin to make sure the butter doesn't go rancid. Season well!

We ate ours on water crackers. The students butter believe how lucky they are!
