Year 7 ‘Spirit of Rugby’ Honour

This week marked our final rugby tournament and what a fantastic way to round off the season. The Year 7 boys have been outstanding throughout the year, showing great enthusiasm and commitment while developing their skills—despite one of the wettest and muddiest winters on record!
It has been especially rewarding to see several of the boys take their passion further by joining rugby clubs outside of school, where they have been warmly welcomed into the wider rugby community.
The tournament itself went very well. Although it took us a game to find our rhythm, the team quickly settled, securing wins against Wey Valley School and Lytchett School, along with a hard-fought draw against The Griffin School. These results saw us finish an impressive 4th out of 12 schools on the day.
Even more pleasing was being awarded the ‘Spirit of Rugby’ award by the tournament organisers—voted for by the other schools. This recognised the team’s support for one another, respect for opponents, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition.
There were some outstanding performances from all the players, but my Player of the Tournament went to Randle.
Before the tournament, we set ourselves clear goals: to present the ball cleanly, clear out hard in the ruck and move the ball two passes away from the breakdown. The boys executed this brilliantly. It’s always great to see a plan come together!
